Are you prepared for a Rainy Day Pet walking? 5 Monsoon Must-Haves

Isn’t walking your pet bliss? You benefit from it as much as your little furry angel does. Walking your dog is crucial for its social, psychological, and physical health. It encourages an active lifestyle, challenges their minds, encourages socialization, deepens the bond between dogs and their owners, supports behavior reinforcement, enables health monitoring, and backs training.

Researchers say that dogs who indulge in regular walks tend to be happier, healthier, and more adaptable. Therefore, rain or shine, walks must never be missed. Before the shine goes past, here is what will prepare us for the doggo walks in the rain.

We have got you covered with this super quick monsoon essentials checklist -

A. Raincoats and Boots

You will not regret investing in a super cute raincoat for your little companion. Monsoons can get really uncomfortable for pets, especially when they have to stay wet for long thereby catching a cold.

A nice, pet-skin-friendly rain jacket will help in preserving their dryness and keep them warm. Dog boots protect your dog's paws from muddy and wet surfaces. Both these accessories potentially take care of your pets outdoors during rain. There are lesser skin and other infections due to murky water.

B. Towels and pet dry sheets

Post-walk care is a must for our furry babies. Carefully wiping away that extra moisture that stays back on our pet’s thick fur coat can shield them from getting a cold or infected. Keeping absorbent towels handy may help us to quickly dry them up post-walk.

Having them stand on a pet dry sheet, spread on the floor just by your door, post-walk may soak the dripping water from their fur and dirt from their paws. In addition, a blow dryer may help to warm their moist fur coat.

C. Poop Bags and Extra Plastic Bags

If your paw buddy is littering in the open and you do not clean after, you would be spreading bacteria, especially during the monsoon season. While some pet parents believe that their dog’s waste can get washed away in the rain, it is not the right and safe conduct. Washed-away waste may spread germs and harmful bacteria faster.

Carrying waterproof and biodegradable poop bags and trashing the used bags in bins is highly recommended by responsible pet parents.

D. Leash and Harness

Walking and managing dogs for safety on a rainy day is a great task for all pet parents. Leashes and harnesses are an all-season necessity gear but prove to be a great savior during monsoons when you really want to keep your furry babies in control outdoors. You can easily direct and control your pet's movements. While a leash may give more freedom and safety, a harness reduces the pulls and jolts on pets when you try to control how they move.

E. Elevated and comfortable bed

Last but not least, since we are walking our pets in the wet and chilly rains, we must provide them with some warmth too. Our paw buddies love to roam free. Dawning the raincoats, boots under lashing rains and, uneasy moisture on the fur coat is quite a change in their usual lifestyle. An elevated bed, away from the chilled floor can provide them the comfort they seek. Provide them fresh water and fiber-rich, easy-to-digest food.

Furthermore, being super attentive is essential. Carry an umbrella during walks, avoid flooded areas, and know your surroundings well. Check for the open drainage that may appear like a puddle from the top. Take your pet outdoors when it’s still drizzling and not pouring.

You may also create an indoor potty and pee area with pee pads or a dog litter box if your dog dislikes going outside in the rain.
